What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ‘ray-key’) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing and balance. Made from a combination of two Japanese words Rei (translated to “universal/spiritual consciousness/ wisdom of a higher power) and Ki (translated to “vital life force energy” – aka prana, chi or xi) it channels universal life force energy through the hands of a practitioner into the body of an accepting receiver..
Reiki is ancient Tibetan spiritual healing art that was lost to the world for centuries and then rediscovered in the 1920s by Mikao Usui, a monk from Kyoto, Japan. He found references to it in a 2,500 year old Sanskrit document written by one of Buddha’s disciples. The system was passed, hand to hand, from Mikao Usui, to naval surgeon, Dr. Chujiro Hayashi. Dr. Hayashi, in turn, passed the teachings down to a Japanese-American woman, Mrs. Hawayo Takata, who introduced the system to the West. Reiki is a whole and complete energy. It can be used anytime, any place and for any condition. Reiki flows through the heart and hands of the practitioner into the person, animal or plant being treated, enhancing and accelerating the body’s natural healing processes. It unlocks inner flow, releasing energy blocks to restore inner balance. Reiki treats the whole person including their mind, body, emotions and spirit. It also creates many beneficial side effects such as feelings of peace, equanimity, security, harmony and well-being.
We are all born with reiki running through us but as we go through life we become less open and the flow becomes less pure and free. A reiki treatment simply frees up this energy that is already within you.
Is it a religion or connected to a religion?
No. It is spiritual in essence and derived from a higher power on a higher dimension, but it not connected to any religious or spiritual beliefs.
How is a Reiki treatment given?
In a typical treatment Reiki energy flows from the practitioner’s hands into the client. The client, who is fully dressed, is usually lying down (but they can also be sitting or standing for shorter sessions). The practitioner lays his/her hands on or close to the body of the client and follows a series of hand positions that align to the chakra system. Each hand position is held for a duration of 3-10 minutes depending on how much Reiki is needed in that particular area. (The practitioner senses when to move their hands.) A full treatment last between 45-60 minutes. The client does not have to do anything for this treatment except they must accept the energy for it to work.
What does a Reiki treatment feel like?
What you experience during a Reiki treatment can vary quite a lot from person to person. However, almost everyone experiences feelings of deep, delicious relaxation. In addition, many feel a wonderful glowing radiance flow through and around them. Some people drift off to sleep while others report feeling as though they are floating outside their bodies. In some cases, people have reported having visions and other mystical experiences. At the end of the treatment, everyone reports feeling refreshed and relaxed with a very positive, balanced outlook. Sometimes an answer to a previously nagging question is revealed.
What can be treated with Reiki?
Reiki has had a positive affect on all forms of illness and negative conditions when used in conjunction with medical protocols. This includes minor things like head or stomach aches, bee stings, colds, flu, tension and anxiety as well as serious illness like heart disease, cancer, leukemia, etc. The side effects of regular medical treatments have also been reduced or eliminated when Reiki has been administered. This includes the negative effects of chemotherapy, post operative pain and depression as well as improving the healing rate and reducing the time needed to stay in the hospital. Reiki always helps and in some cases people have experienced complete healings which have been confirmed by medical tests before and after the Reiki treatments. However, while some have experienced miracles, they cannot be guaranteed. Stress reduction with some improvement in ones physical and psychological condition are what most experience.

Learn to do Reiki ~ Level 1 Course
What is Reiki Level 1?
It is the initial introduction to Reiki – there are three levels. The training involves a powerful and sacred First Degree activating initiation (called an ‘attunement’) by a Reiki Master enabling the student to become a conduit for Reiki energy. As well, general information about the history of Reiki and Reiki principles are taught along an overview of the bodies meridian and Chakra systems. You will leave with the ability to use this energy on yourself, your friends, your family, your plants and pets.
What you’ll learn from this course:
- The history of Reiki and the story of Dr. Usui.
- The Reiki principles will be discussed in detail and how they can be used as a guide to lead a more authentic life.
- How to visualize other peoples auras as well as the the locations of the chakra energy systems in the body.
- Get a general understanding of the chakra energy system and how each chakra connects on our physical/mental/ emotional/spiritual level.
- Learn how to use Reiki as a healing and personal growth system.
- Learn the specific hand positions so you can perform complete Reiki sessions on yourself and others.

- Learn how you uniquely experience the Reiki energy travelling through you.

Can anyone learn Reiki?
A resounding YES! and in my opinion everyone SHOULD learn this powerful healing tool. You need no special skills or talents to learn Reiki and it is not dependent on your capacity of spirituality or intelligence. Once a person is attuned to Reiki, is always available to them and ready to administer. Reiki is a pure and unlimited form of healing energy is waiting to be used.
